Rumoured Attack: Banks Close To Customers In Osun
Banks in some major towns in Osun state hurriedly closed to customers Wednesday following rumour of possible attack by robbers.
In Osogbo the rumor of attack on banks in Ilesa forced some banks to close to customers while police patrol vehicle were seen parading flash points in the state capital.
It was gathered that at about noon, rumour filtered in from Ilesa of attacks on some banks.
Sources hinted that gunshots were heard near Ilesa roundabout where there are concentration of commercial bank.
The apprehension that followed the suspicion of possible attack by the robbers caused pandemonium with people running for dear lives thereby forcing banks and markets to hurriedly closed for business for the fear of being attacked by the robbers.
Soon after, rumour of the attack crept into other towns across the state. In Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun local government area of the state, vehicles practically deserted roads and nearly all business outfits shut.
Also in Osogbo, few minutes to 1pm, an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was seen being driven towards Gbongan Road, where most banks in the state capital have their branches.
Reacting to the development, Osun state police command said it has placed its men on red alert, following speculations that robbers invaded banks located at Ilesa.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Folasade Odoro reads: “The police is using this medium to inform the general public that the widespread attack rumour, being peddled is a fallacy and should be disregarded.
“The state Police Command saddled with the responsibility of policing will continue to work assiduously to guarantee the security of lives and property of the good people of Osun State and enjoins members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without panic.
“Residents and law abiding citizens are encouraged to give useful information and report promptly of any suspicious movement/ character to the nearest police station.”
