Demolished Shop Owners Beg For Compensation In Osun
An appeal has gone to the governor of Osun State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola to
extend the payment of compensation on demolished structures to MDS, Osogbo shop owners whose structures were demolished by the state government.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday,, members of MDS Shop Owners Association expressed their displeasure over the unfair treatment meted out on them on the issue of compensation for the demolished structures.
Reading their text, Mrs Funke Afolabi recalled that the structures flanking both sides of MDS Road, stretching from Old Garage, MDS, Olaiya Junction to Fakunle Area were demolished by the State Government for dualisation of the road in 2013.
She posited that enumeration and valuation exercise were carried out by officials of the State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning for payment of compensation.
According to her, it is unfortunate that compensation was not paid by the immediate past government in spite of series of letters of reminder and visits paid to the governor.
“On assumption of office in 2019, His Excellency the Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, a courtesy visit was paid to him by all the affected claimants.
She noted that at the meeting, the governor made a committal statement that compensation would be paid installmentally in (trenches) to all the claimants adding that it is disturbing to note that approval has been given for compensation to be paid to a section of the claimants with the exclusion of claimants from Old Garage, MDS, Olaiya Junction and Fakunle Area.
