Six Convicted For Internet Fraud In Ibadan, Osogbo
The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, February 14, 2022 secured six convictions before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, both sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State and Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State for their involvement in cybercrime.
The convicts are: Oladiran Olayinka Abiodun, Mayowa Isaiah Ilesanmi, Abdulrahman Mubarak, Wusa Oyindamola Samson, Opeyemi Roqeeb Abiodun and Asiwaju Hammed Adegboyega
They were arraigned today on separate charges and they all pleaded “guilty” to the charges preferred against them.
Upon their pleas, the prosecution counsel reviewed the facts of the cases and urged the courts to convict and sentence them as charged.
Justice Agomoh convicted and sentenced Wusa Oyindamola Samson to eight months imprisonment while Oladiran Olayinka Abiodun and Asiwaju Hammed Adegboyega bagged five months imprisonment each.
Similarly, Justice Akintola convicted Abdulrahman Mubarak and Mayowa Isaiah Ilesanmi on separate charges for the offences of obtaining property by false pretence, an offence which contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Mubarak was sentenced to three months community service while Ilesanmi bagged two months community service.
In the same vein, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel convicted Oladiran Olayinka Abiodun for conspiring with one Akeem Olabisi Olaitan to conceal the source of money found in his bank account, knowing that it was part of the proceeds of crime and sentenced him to twelve months imprisonment.
The convicts are to restitute their victims and forfeit the items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
