Super Falcons Wins National Team Of The Year At CAF Awards 2025
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been named the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year, capping off a spectacular year marked by dominance, resilience, and a record-extending continental triumph.
The recognition comes on the back of a sensational year in which the Super Falcons secured their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, further solidifying their status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
Under the guidance of head coach Justin Madugu, Nigeria stormed through the group stage with emphatic wins over Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, not conceding a single goal.
Their momentum carried into the knockout rounds, where they overpowered Zambia 5–0 in the quarterfinals and edged past South Africa 2–1 in a tense semifinal to secure a spot in the final against hosts Morocco.
In a thrilling final, the Falcons displayed their trademark fighting spirit. After falling 2–0 behind within the first 24 minutes, Nigeria mounted a stunning second-half comeback, scoring three goals in 24 minutes to claim the title in remarkable fashion.
The team’s achievements have also earned individual recognition. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was nominated for CAF Women’s Player of the Year, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was shortlisted for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
With another record-breaking year, the Super Falcons continue to inspire a new generation of female footballers across Africa and reaffirm Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in women’s football.
