TUC Condemns Senate Threat To Reject FG Nominees

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) Thursday condemned the threats by the Senate to reject any nominee presented before it by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, saying its utterances were harsh and undemocratic.
It also advised the Federal Government against putting the payment of the salaries of primary school teachers under the local governments in the country as being agitated by the teachers.
TUC said such confrontation won’t be in the interest of Nigerians who are desirous of good governance through quality representations at all levels for dividends of democracy to get to the citizenry.
The Senate had on Tuesday at its plenary, threatened to reject any nomination sent to it by Acting President Osinbajo over a statement credited to him that it constitutes a constitutional infraction and merely a ceremonious act for the  National Assembly  to screen Presidential nominees .
The senate also predicated its resolve on the recalcitrant position of the Presidency to defy its advice that Mr. Ibrahim Magu should be removed as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the TUC Chairman in Ekiti State, Com. Odunayo Adesoye, declared that the Senators had allegedly acted in an unpatriotic manner by their resolution, saying such was capable of igniting confusion and driving  governance to a halt.
“This is a very sensitive issue and the Senate must think about it critically, because the government will run into a standstill if such threat is carried out. The National Assembly shouldn’t be emotional over Acting President Osinbajo’s statement , because this country belongs to all of us.
“Any issue that has to do with personality shouldn’t be taken as an issue that must assume national importance. If the Acting President had even erred by that statement, that shouldn’t be the reason why the whole system should be made to crumble.

“They must remember that the Senators were elected to make good laws and perform other statutory oversight functions and not to fight the presidency. They should look for ways to resolve this issue politically rather than taking it personal, because Nigerians will suffer if nominees are rejected”, he warned.
