Bishop Calls For God-fearing Leader In UNN Vice Chancellor Selection

As the University of Nigeria, Nsukka moves closer to appointing its next Vice Chancellor, the Methodist Bishop of Nsukka/Eha-Amufu, Rt. Rev. Dr. John Eze has called for spiritual vigilance and the selection of a leader with proven integrity and vision.

Bishop Eze made the call in a press statement issued on Friday, shortly after a prophetic prayer walk at the university’s main gate, where he led a symbolic anointing of the entry and exit points.

He prayed for divine intervention in the selection process and for the emergence of a leader who would restore the university’s excellence and moral foundation.

“The University of Nigeria deserves a Nehemiah, a leader who will rebuild the broken walls and restore its lost glory,” he said.

The prayer walk comes amid heightened expectations, political alignments, and widespread speculations over who will succeed the current Vice Chancellor.

Bishop Eze emphasised that the university needs not just an academic administrator, but a transformational figure who will prioritise the welfare of staff, students, and the broader academic community.

“I urged stakeholders to rise above sentiments and politics, stressing that only a God-fearing, visionary leader can reposition UNN for national relevance and global competitiveness,” he said.

Bishop Eze concluded his intercession with a message of hope, praying that the university emerges stronger and more vibrant under new leadership.
