By Joyce Aroh
Pope Francis appointed five priests in Issele-Uku Catholic Diocese, Delta State, as chamberlains.
Those appointed are Monsignors John Aduba, Michael Nwokolo, Parker Ogboi, Miletus Eze and Augustine Ojei.
Created on July 5, 1973, by Pope Pius XI from Benin Archdiocese, Issele-Uku Diocese covers six councils, including Aniocha South and North, Oshimili South and North, Ika South and North-East. It has 93 parishes, 232 priests and nine monsignors.
The Diocesan Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Charles Uganwa, said the bishop, Michael Elue, would invest the five papal chamberlains on Saturday, October 31.
According to Uganwa, the ceremony, which will be in line with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) protocols, will begin by 10a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Issele-Uku.
He said the honour was given to the five in recognition of their selfless contributions to the local church and humanity.
Uganwa stated that the Pope, in his letter conferring the honour, urged them to see it as a call to contribute more in the development of the Nigerian society.
