Researching the peppers probably isn't the best idea for someone who is about to bite into one. "One seed from a Naga Jolokia can produce sustained intense pain sensations in the mouth for up to 30 minutes before subsiding." Not really the type of thing I'm looking forward to. Oh well. It must be done.

For anyone who watches Man v Food.

This is from when he had the wings with a ghost pepper sauce.

FWIW, that sauce was made with 'ghost pepper extract'. Don't know if that makes it worse or not, just saying it was the pepper itself.

Oh you want on some of ranting and raving now too, Transfer

On the positive front, my house did sell, and we were able to move into a place up in Pittsfield Township (The "Nice" part of Ypsilanti). Oh, and by we, I mean my family. I'm still mostly in Lexington. One more month to go. Writing my Dissertation, but also still being given experiments from my advisor. Looks like my defense is going to be Oct29th/30th, and I start my new job at UM Nov 2nd.

If someone was interested in growing some of these peppers themselves, where is a good place to get some seeds? Any tips on getting a good crop?

I think there should be quite a few seed sources out there by this winter. I first got mine from the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University ( http://www.chilepepperinstitute.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ).

Your webmaster should also have a few seeds he could spare. ;-)

Yeah, this was my second pepper in just under a week. I have a clip of the first one, which hurt as well, but I haven't pulled it off the camera yet. Anyways, they were very, very hot and made it difficult to continue with lecture. The students absolutely loved seeing their professor in pain. Big thanks to Grant for supplying the bhut jolokias. I may have to make this a yearly thing like Grant does.

My guess is people will sign up for your class based on this lecture alone. ;-) Well done!! Love all the mentions of substance P and receptors and the like too! Would love to see your slides for that lecture!
