FANTASTIC!!
The band sounded great!! Men's Chorus sounded great.... You couldn't go wrong with a patriotic show on 9/11 but it really did sound great. When the band was stretched from the 10 to the 10 and the chorus was belting out Proud to be an American...it was moving!!
Also, the position of the band in the end zone was great from a fan's perspective! The sound was bigger and it filled up those end-zone bleachers.
Just a great performance all-around.
OH...and what was with the flag-chicks' uniforms?? Velvet?!!?!?

I really wish I could have heard your show (it's the only reason I went to the game!). Unfortunately, our seats were on the East side and I didn't think of moving to the other side until it was too late! The uniforms look GREAT! and such a full sound! The screamer blew me away!
Good job all Falcon Marching Band members!

That was an awesome first show! I got chills with the energy in the stadium for you guys at pregame. Now that I've seen the new uni's on the field, I really like them.
What I really like about the last two shows I've seen is the drill writing. There's obviously more effort put into drill than you normally see out of college bands lately.
The band looked big too. Any word on the final number?

It was 227 last time I heard... although it's possible a couple people may have quit.
I'm glad you guys liked the show, the uniforms, the placement, the energy, and uh, whatever else you mentioned!!
I have a feeling we're going to have an awesome season.
As for the drills, that's still Jason Sivill. He has his own high school band now (down near Oxford) but is still writing drills for us from afar! Unfortunately he couldn't be in BG tonight because his band was at a contest, I think. But Dr H and Ryan Nowlin say they called him during the 3rd quarter to tell him the show was a hit!
(And yes, crushed velvet--or some imitation thereof?--for the flags' uniforms.)

What a Show!!
All I have to say is WOW!! The show was amazing. The band has made great strides forward since my days back in 1995. The new seating placement works. All of the people I was sitting around in the West Side (Where the band sat last year) were commenting on how nice it was to hear the band and not just see the back of the uniforms. I can't wait to see how you top this first show. Its good to see the amazing cooperation back between the band and men's chorus. Pre game was good as well. I can't wait to see more.

The reason they have black is that the Brown Velvet was going to be really hard to get, seeing as not many uniforms have brown on them. I do believe it may have added to the cost as well, and I think the guard all buy their uniforms, so if I stood in their shoes, I probably wouldn't want to pay a whole lot extra as I'm assuming the uniforms were already expensive enough. And really, who cares if it's black? I don't care if the FMB wears purple and pink pinstripes...........although it would be ugly, it would still be the FMB!

I think the band looked and sounded great. But what's up with all the flutes? Couldn't you take at least half of those and make brass players out of them?
I also wondered about the black velvet. Kind of halloween-like with the orange. Maybe the stuff doesn't come in brown.

I care if it's black along with a lot of people because black is not a school color. This is the same reason why people wondered if there would be black on the band uniforms. Also, yes the guard and twirlers have to pay for their uniforms and it shouldn't be like that, but getting new ones almost every year is their choice.MatrixBass3 wrote:The reason they have black is that the Brown Velvet was going to be really hard to get, seeing as not many uniforms have brown on them. Well, White isn't a school color either and I never hear complaints about that. As far as I'm concerned, black and white are neutral colors. This thread has already happened before, so let's not get into it. I think black pants are the way to go regardless of school color. It is in no way in disregard to the school colors, it just looks good. For all of those TBDBITL fans out there..........how come no one ever complains about the fact that they don't wear scarlett and gray? They have black uniforms...................interesting.......................

Well, the OSUMB does a lot of things we don't, like NOT chair-stepping, NOT marching corps-style drills, and NOT marching woodwinds. Speaking of which...

Verrrrrrrry funny. Look, I'm laughing. But what's up with all the flutes? Couldn't you take at least half of those and make brass players out of them?

I thought the band sounded GREAT last night! I think putting them in the end zone is a good idea so those of us on the West side can actually hear them play throughout the game. I noticed the bleachers where the band sits now were redone. Are those metal seats now? They need to do that with the whole section.
I made sure to tell a few band members how good they sounded and to keep up the good job!

Yeah Mike, they put like plastic aluminum type stuff over them so the wood didn't tear up the new uniforms. They probably should do that to the whole section but I am wondering if they are taking those down when the SAC gets built.Falconfreak90 wrote:I thought the band sounded GREAT last night! There is a difference with white and black though my friend. White is complimenting color to both orange and brown. Black however does not compliment brown at all. Also, black and white are not "neutral colors." A good 30%-70% opacity of black would be neutral but would also be considered gray. They are what you call contrasting colors and the 2 biggest contrasting ones out there. While you think black pants "look good" regardless of school color, you must realize that we are talking about a college band and not a drum corps. Drum corps wear black because it looks good, college bands wear their school colors because they are the school colors.MatrixBass3 wrote:Well, White isn't a school color either and I never hear complaints about that. Now, onto TBDBITL. Yes, they wear black and it looks fine. But you have to look at this from another point. Our orange is their grey, our brown is their scarlett. That being said, they don't have a dominating "dark" color in their school colors which means black compliments them both as well. If they were to wear white uniforms, they would have the same problem with white as we do with black. Why? Because the gray would not be as contrasting to the red as the white is, the gray would almost be obsolete.
