Hi,

Is there a way to only update contacts, but not create new when uploading? There are various "For duplicate contacts" options, but not for that I don't think.

The reason is that I have a long list of email addresses that I need to set the "do not email" option for. However, within the list are lots of invalid email addresses, which will be uploaded as new contacts if I do an update.

I know that I could strip out the invalid email addresses before upload, but it would be nice if I could do it directly with the upload feature.

If the functionality is not there, would a patch be considered to add this function?

Dont think a feature like this exists.

We do get the occassional request for "update only" or "create only". Not sure if it makes sense to add and complicate import even more

There is a proposal to implement an import API and rewrite import using API v3 etc and make it more flexible. I suspect something like the below should be achievable via hooks and a custom extension going forward

Thanks for the prompt reply. That's fair enough - I can see that the upload feature could get pretty unwieldy!
