Labour Party Urges Obasanjo, Soyinka, Others To Stop Abiodun From Selling Govt Lands, Housing Estates
The National Vice chairman, South West Labour Party  (LP) has pleaded with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof Wole Soyinka, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and other prominent leaders of the state to urgently intervene and caution Governor Dapo Abiodun over the alleged sale of government-owned housing assets, including the Ibara Housing Estate , Housing Corporation buildings , and other properties under the Ogun State Housing Corporation.
In a press statement ,the Labour Party Chieftain Dr Arabambi Abayomi accused the Abiodun administration of recklessly disposing off public assets built with taxpayers’ funds, warning that the action threatens the future of affordable housing in the state.
Arabambi described the alleged sale of the Ibara Housing Estate as a direct attack on Ogun State’s collective heritage, insisting that estates meant to serve civil servants and ordinary residents are being handed over to private interests under what he termed “opaque and anti-people arrangements.”
He  stressed that the Ogun State Housing Corporation, established nearly 50 years ago, was created to address housing deficits and not to be dismantled through asset stripping irresponsibly
“You cannot correct administrative failures by selling off the people’s inheritance. This government is trading the future of Ogun State for short-term gains,” Arabambi said.
The Labour Party condemned what it described as the lack of transparency surrounding the transactions, alleging that there was no meaningful consultation with residents, labour unions, the House of Assembly, or traditional institutions before the decision to dispose of the assets was arrived at
The party argued that rather than selling public estates, the Abiodun administration should focus on massive roads construction, rehabilitate all existing housing facilities and strengthening the Housing Corporation to fulfil its mandate to provide housing for all and not the few emmegency millionaires produce between May 29th 2019 till date in APC Ogun State
Calling on elder statesmen such as Obasanjo , Prof Soyinka and Baba Osoba, as well as traditional rulers including the Alake of Egbaland, the LP said their silence would embolden the continued expansionist Conquest of Egba Land , Erosion of public property and urged them to act in defence of out state monuments and heritage
The party demanded an immediate suspension of all housing asset sales, full disclosure of beneficiaries and processes involved in line with the Freedom of Information Act requests made to the Government over 2 months ago and which Arabambi said the Dapo Abiodun administration unlawfully ignored
He also called for an independent audit of the Ogun State Housing Corporation failure of which he said their party Lawyer Prof Yemi Oke SAN has been briefed to initiate legal proceedings against Prince Dapo Abiodun , Mr Tokunbo Talabi, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, Ogun State Governor, Secretary Ogun State Government, Commissioner For Housing and Ministry Of Housing
It warned that Ogun residents would resist any attempt to privatise public housing without due process, open competitive bidding in line with Bureau Of public Enterprises and popular consent.
Finally all formats with resemblance of Akotileta and Ajagungbale currently on the prowl must be stopped immediately and due process followed
He concluded by calling on those respected Elders including Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egba Land to caution the Governor about further display of Economic and Political rascality
