Court Jails 2 Men For Trafficking In Tramadol, Marijuana
Two drug traffickers, Ogunwale Ranti, 50, and Ibrahim Adamu, 49, have been convicted and sentenced to various jail-terms, by Justice Friday Ogazi, of a Federal High Court, Lagos.
The duo were convicted and sentenced after their pleaded guilty to one count each of trafficking in tramadol and India hemp made against by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Arraigning the two convicts, the prosecutor, Barrister Chibuzo E. Ohanyere, informed the court the the first convict, Ogunwale, a resident of Ganniyoko Quarters, Badagry Palace,was arrested 27.8 kilograms of Tramadol on December 10, 2025, at NDLEA Checkpoint, Badagry Expressway, Lagos state. While the second convict, Ibrahim Adamu, a resident of Asipa quarter, was arrested with 1.5 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa otherwise known as marijuana, on January 30, 2026, at Ashipa Seme border, Badagry West L.G.A.
Upon the reading of the charges marked FHC/L/71c/2026 and FHC/L/152c/2026 respectively, the two convicts admitted committing the crimes and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Based on their plea, the prosecutor, Barrister Ohanyere, after tendering all exhibits in the matter and after citing plethoras of authorities, prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.
But convicts’ counsel in their allocutor prayed the court to be merciful to their clients, saying that they are first time convicts who did not have any record of previous conviction.
The lawyer also prayed the court to award a non-custodian sentence on their clients.
In his judgment, Justice Ogazi after considering the submissions of the convicts’ counsel and confirming from the prosecutor that they are first time offender, sentenced the first convict, Ogunwale Ranti to 12 months imprisonment with a fine of N900, 000, 00.
While the second convict, Ibrahim Adamu, was sentenced to six months imprisonment but ordered to pay the sum of N800, 000, 00 as fine option.
Charges against the convicts read: “That you OGUNWALE RANTI, Male adult, 50 years Nigerian, of Ganniyoko Quarters, Badagry Palace, Lagos on or about the 10th day of December, 2025, at NDLEA Checkpoint, Badagry Expressway, Lagos state, within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court, without unlawful authority trafficked 27.8kgs of Tramadol a psychotropic substance by which act you committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
“That you IBRAHIM ADAMU, Male, adult, 49 years, Nigerian, of Ashipa Seme border, Badagry West L.G.A, Lagos on or about the 30th day of January, 2026 at Ashipa Seme border, Badagry West L.G.A, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court, without lawful authority dealt in 1.5kg of marijuana otherwise known as “Cannabis Sativa” a narcotic drug similar to Cocaine, Heroin, LSD by which act you committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
