Defence Ministry Receives Delegation From Ghana Armed Forces Command And Staff College
The Ministry of Defence on Thursday, 14th May 2026, received a delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Senior Course 47 on a study tour, at the Ministry’s headquarters Ship house, Abuja.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence Mr Richard Pheelangwa represented by Director Joint Services Department
Mrs Bosede Olaniyi said that the visit formed part of the delegation’s regional study tour designed to promote professional exchange, strengthen regional defence cooperation, and enhance understanding of defence administration and industrial development within Africa. She stated that the position of Nigeria and Ghana is crucial to West Africa and Nigeria has gone far with Ghana in building strong economic collaboration.
Speaking further, Olaniyi informed that Nigeria is working round the clock to ensure peace in Nigeria and in Africa at large noting that the success of the Defence sector is germane to the growth of the African continent.
She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with African nations and promoting collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent. She reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to scale up collaboration with Ghana.
During the Ministry’s presentation, the Assistant Director (Special Project) Joint Services Department Mrs Fatima Mowarin highlighted major reforms undertaken by the Federal Government, which include the re-enactment of the DICON Act, expansion of public-private partnerships, technology transfer initiatives, and collaboration with indigenous and foreign defence-related industries to boost local production capacity.
She further outlined ongoing efforts to address challenges confronting the sector, including inadequate funding, dependence on foreign technology, and difficulties in sourcing raw materials locally and efforts to revitalise local steel production to ensure effective technology transfer agreements with foreign partners.
Responding, the head of the Ghana delegation Colonel Fiifi Deegbe appreciated the Ministry for the warm reception and valuable engagements received since arrival in Nigeria.
He noted that visits to military formations, Kaduna and various service headquarters had provided significant learning opportunities and deeper insight into Nigeria’s defence operations and industrial development efforts.
He commended the Ministry for the elaborate briefings, transparency, and commitment towards advancing indigenous defence production and regional security cooperation, stating that with the ongoing development in Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence, Africa is heading towards military advancement.
In the same vein, the representative of the Senior Course 47, Major Kuntu Blankson said that the college will collaborate with the Ministry for knowledge enhancement and thanked the management of the collage for the opportunity to visit Nigeria.
