MTN Urges Nigerians To Report Sabotage Activities On Facilities
A telecommunication outfit, MTN Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to report activities of sabotage on its facilities within their respective communities.
The firm disclosed that, on a daily basis, there are either two or more reported cases of sabotage on its assets as fibers are being cut due to road and building constructions, vandalism, looting of its base stations or an act of sabotage by any of the communities that housed its base stations in the country.
Speaking at a ‘Creators’ & Media Circle’ Briefing with MTN executive at its headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday, the chief technical officer, MTN, Yahaya Ibrahim, noted that, some of these activities are responsible for bad network service being experienced by mobile phone users, saying, MTN has ensured even spread to enhance the quality of its network.
“Unfortunately, the activities of saboteurs continue to erode the efforts we put in to ensure every MTN customer gets good and quality service reception either for calls or browsing the internet.
In 2025, he said, about 252 sites were vandalised, adding that, road construction, sabotage, vandalism can shut down a network. When a site is vandalised or a community locks up our site or you cut a fibre cable, it affects quality of service.”
” People experiencing such don’t speak up, even those vandals could be in their midst. I will appeal to people to always speak up and report such sabotage so that, we can take appropriate measure to bring perpetrators to justice while we address the situation to give Nigerians the best of experience . This gives us edge, ” he pointed out.
