OAU Undergraduate Dies During Examination
The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University on Thursday announced the death of Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, a Part IV student in the College of Health Sciences of the institution.
The management, which described the death as sudden, said Adewole’s passage occurred “during a clinical viva examination when the student reportedly complained of chest pain.”
The university spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement, said the student was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students present.
Regretting that despite prompt medical attention and all efforts made to revive him, the PRO said Adewole “sadly passed on. This tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the university community.”
Reacting to the development, the OAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff and students of the university, extended heartfelt condolences to the parents, siblings and family of the deceased.
The VC also commiserated with his friends, colleagues and members of the College of Health Sciences over the painful and irreparable loss.
The statement added, “The university management is currently engaging relevant authorities and the family to provide necessary support and to further understand the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”
