Ogun Motorcycle Union Warns Members Against Late Night Operations

The newly re-elected Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, Ogun State, Taofeek Sokoya, popularly called Danku, has called on motorcycle riders in the state to remain vigilant, prioritise safety, and shun late-night operations.

This is as the AMORAN boss hailed Governor Dapo Abiodun for working hard in the last seven years to ensure all-round development across all sectors of the economy, saying the governor has raised the bar of purposeful leadership in the state.

Sokoya disclosed this on Saturday while speaking with journalists after his second-term inauguration as chairman of the union for another five years, held at the union secretariat in Adatan, Abeokuta.

Speaking against the background of growing insecurity, the AMORAN chairman said: “While the government and the security agencies have been doing a lot to tackle this challenge, we have also been talking to our members to be security conscious because security is everybody’s business.

“We have told them to always be careful and watch whoever they are picking as passengers. They should avoid taking people into the bush and other unsafe areas. We also expect that between 8pm and 9pm, they would have already closed for the day. All of these counsels are for the good of all of us.”

Sokoya lauded Abiodun for infrastructural upgrades, particularly in the road and transportation sectors, saying the governor has been a “loving father and leader of purpose” over the last seven years.

Speaking on his re-election and the inauguration of the new executive of the union, Danku hailed members for the confidence reposed in him, promising to devote his new tenure to taking the union to greater heights.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, represented by Engr. Babatunde Omisakin, commended AMORAN for its operational efficiency and consistent support for the state government’s transportation policies.

Dairo attributed the union’s stability and achievements to the exemplary leadership of Sokoya.

He urged the newly inaugurated executives to consolidate existing achievements, remain committed to service, and continue to uphold the values that have distinguished the union over the years.

In his remarks, the Ogun State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Lasisi, praised the long-standing cordial relationship between the TUC and AMORAN.

Lasisi urged members to sustain unity, discipline, and collective progress, while encouraging the new executives to harness their numerical strength to speak with one voice in truth and unity.

The inauguration ceremony attracted several stakeholders from the transportation and labour sectors, including the Chairman of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation, Rasak Olusola Sotayo; member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Abeokuta South State Constituency II, Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele; and a former AMORAN Chairman, Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle, among others.
