2 Women Faces Trial Over Alleged Unlawful Possession Of Heroin, Cocaine
Justice Daniel Osiagor of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has fixed the trial of two Nigerian women, Ijeoma Chinwe Agbakoba and Ifeoma Maryjane Okoye, for June 10, 2026, over alleged unlawful possession of prohibited drugs, cocaine and heroin.
Justice Osiagor fixed the trial date of the two women after they were arraigned on Friday, on a four count-charge of alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of the prohibited drugs by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The two women were charged before the court in an amended four-charge numbered FHC/L/600C/2024.
In the charge, the defendants allegedly committed on July 3, 2024, at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi Close, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
The prosecutor, Barrister M. O. Oliver told the court that the two defendants of conspiring among themselves to possess prohibited narcotics without lawful authority, contrary to provisions of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act.
While the two women were jointly charged together in two counts, the first defendant, Ijeoma Chinese Agbakoba, was separately charged in count three and four of the charge.
They were alleged to have jointly and separately possessed 3.56 kilograms of heroin and 2.42 kilograms of cocaine unlawfully.
The offences according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 14(b) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and punishable under the same Act.
The two women denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Based on their plea, their lawyer, Dennis Warri and Kate Igbo, prayed the court to allow them to continue with bail terms granted them when they were first arraigned.
Consequently, Justice Osiagor adjourned the matter to June 10, 2026, for their trial.
